Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions and answers we receive from patients about Natural Balance Wellness Medical Center.

Administrative and Clinic Process

Natural Balance Wellness Medical Center is out-of-network for all insurance providers. We do not bill insurance directly. However, we provide you with a superbill (detailed receipt with standard CPT and ICD-10 codes) after every visit that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement according to your out-of-network benefits. Many patients receive partial reimbursement from their insurance. We accept HSA and FSA cards as well.

For a more in-depth discussion about your health situation, we recommend scheduling an initial consultation with one of our clinicians.

Natural Balance Wellness Medical Center takes a fundamentally different approach from conventional medicine. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, we use advanced genomic testing, functional medicine diagnostics, and comprehensive lab work to identify the root causes of your health challenges. Our team spends significantly more time with each patient (60–90 minute appointments vs. typical 15-minute visits), develops personalized treatment plans based on your unique genetic makeup, and combines the best of conventional medicine with evidence-based complementary strategies. Many of our patients come to us after years of frustration with conventional approaches and find lasting improvement through our precision medicine model.

Programs and Clinical Questions

Functional medicine focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of disease rather than just managing symptoms. It views the body as an interconnected system and uses advanced testing to understand how genetics, environment, and lifestyle interact to influence health. Complementary medicine refers to evidence-based therapies used alongside conventional treatments (such as acupuncture, nutritional therapy, and herbal medicine). Integrative medicine combines the best of conventional and complementary approaches. At NBW, we practice precision functional medicine, using genomic testing and advanced diagnostics to create highly personalized treatment plans.

You can learn more about Dr. Tony Boggess and our clinical team on our About page. Dr. Boggess is a nationally recognized expert in precision medicine and genomics with decades of experience in functional and integrative medicine. Our team includes specialists in nutrition, acupuncture, and holistic therapies. You can also find educational content on our blog and YouTube channel where our clinicians discuss various health topics and treatment approaches.

Patient education is a cornerstone of our approach at NBW. We believe that informed patients achieve better outcomes. Our education sessions help you understand your test results, the science behind your treatment plan, and how to make lifestyle modifications that support your healing. These sessions empower you to take an active role in your health journey and make informed decisions about your care. Topics may include understanding your genomic results, nutritional guidance, stress management, and environmental health optimization.

Our precision medicine approach is designed to uncover the underlying factors contributing to your health challenges—factors that are often missed by conventional testing. By analyzing your unique genetic makeup, gut health, hormonal balance, nutritional status, and environmental exposures, we create a comprehensive picture of your health. From there, we develop a targeted treatment plan that addresses root causes rather than just symptoms. Patients typically experience improvements in energy, mental clarity, digestive health, immune function, and overall quality of life as their body's systems come back into balance.

We chose to operate outside of insurance networks for several important reasons: (1) Insurance companies often limit appointment times to 15 minutes—we spend 60–90 minutes with each patient. (2) Many of the advanced tests and treatments we offer are not covered by insurance. (3) Insurance companies may restrict which treatments a doctor can recommend. By operating out-of-network, we maintain complete clinical freedom to recommend the best care for each individual patient without insurance company interference. We provide superbills so you can still seek reimbursement from your insurance.

The field of precision functional medicine is growing rapidly, but it requires extensive additional training beyond conventional medical education. Doctors must invest significant time learning genomics, functional diagnostics, nutritional biochemistry, and integrative therapies. Additionally, the out-of-network model requires building a practice based on patient outcomes and reputation rather than insurance contracts. The good news is that more physicians are recognizing the limitations of symptom-based medicine and pursuing training in functional and precision medicine. NBW has been at the forefront of this movement since 2008.

We utilize a comprehensive array of advanced diagnostic tools including: genomic/DNA testing to understand your genetic predispositions, comprehensive metabolic panels, advanced thyroid and hormone testing, organic acids testing, comprehensive stool analysis, food sensitivity testing, environmental toxin panels (mold, heavy metals, chemicals), neurotransmitter testing, advanced cardiovascular markers, and nutrient level assessments. These tests go far beyond standard blood work to provide a complete picture of your body's function at the cellular level. All testing is discussed with you in detail before ordering.
