Our Doctors & Clinicians
Dr. Tony Boggess is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) physician, author, and speaker who specializes in nutrigenomics and functional-biomedical rehab for adults and children of all ages.
Known nationally for our advanced genomics and diagnostic approach to complex illness and anti-aging, Dr. Boggess is the founder and current director of our center’s Precision Medicine and Advanced NeuroCare programs.
Dr. Boggess earned his medical degree from Midwestern University in Chicago, completed his specialty training at the University of Michigan, and earned additional certifications through Stanford University. He has a long list of academic accolades, including many letters, lists, and honors related to his medical training. He has also received multiple Patient Choice and Compassionate Care nominations and awards since we first opened our doors in 2008.
Dr. Boggess’s story and the evolution of our nationally recognized medical center is a labor of love and his approach to his patients was born out of overcoming his own personal health challenges and professional frustrations. We invite you to read his inspirational story in Jack Canfield’s best-selling book The Road to Success which features Jack Canfield and other authors Mr. Canfield selected as inspirational thought leaders in a variety of fields, including integrative medicine.
Dr. Theresa Basinger's passion for integrative medicine was borne out of frustration after multiple pediatric providers were unable to assist with her son’s immune problems and daughter’s neurological delays. Her search culminated in joining our clinic with a passion for promoting and practicing the nutritional-biomedical medicine that ultimately helped her family.
As a doctor of pharmacy, Dr. Basinger brings unique skills and understanding to our Precision Medicine program. Her extensive biochemistry and pharmacologic knowledge positions her ideally to understand how nutraceuticals enhance and repair biological pathways. Dr. Basinger is also our clinic's resident expert in Bio-Exact hormone restoration and she works closely with our doctors and partner compounding pharmacies to restore youthful hormonal vigor and brain function to our patients, whom are exceedingly grateful for her services!
Dr. Basinger received her pharmacy doctorate from Ohio Northern University, and has over 15 years of clinical experience in a variety of settings. She is married and the proud mother of two very resilient children.
Dr. Brook Baade embarked on her career in functional and integrative medicine following her own autoimmune health crisis. Because she was offered little help or hope from conventional medicine, she instinctively knew that her health could be restored once the body was given the proper building blocks for healing. Fortunately her studies and efforts led to a full remission of her autoimmune disease and she joins our Precision Medicine team with inspired commitment to help others reclaim their health as well.
Dr. Baade earned a doctorate from Ferris State University College of Pharmacy and a Masters in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine from University of Western States. Her extensive study of the biochemistry of drugs and nutrients allows for a comprehensive, integrative approach to her patients.
As our resident expert in peptide therapies, thyroid, adrenal and GI care, Dr. Baade’s approach goes above and beyond! Her initial assessment looks at the interface between endocrine function, autoimmunity, and gastrointestinal health along with metabolic indicators such as insulin sensitivity, glucose regulation and temperature regulation to offer the most comprehensive holistic care available.
Maureen Pickel PA-C, MPH is a Physician Assistant, who alongside the rest of the Natural Balance team, combines conventional medical training with leading-edge concepts in nutritional and functional medicine. She holds a Master's in Public Health Degree from the University of Michigan, and studied at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Integrative & Complementary Medical Program.
In addition to her extensive training, Maureen was also an integral team member at one of South Florida's premier wellness centers for several years before deciding to move back to Ann Arbor to be near her family. In addition to working alongside our doctors and being in charge of multiple clinical tasks related to our Precision Medicine & Advanced Neurocare programs, Maureen runs her own functional medicine program. The functional medicine clinic serves less complex patients, with focus and emphasis on rapid health improvements, prevention/wellness and precise use of supplements.
Maureen is also our resident expert in blood sugar balance, food allergies, dietary programs and in-home physical medicine modalities to include portable hyperbaric oxygen, micro-current/PEMF, and infrared sauna/ozone hyperthermia.
Dr. Yvonne Berry is on personal sabbatical and is no longer seeing patients as a physician. Nevertheless, she remains an honorary team member because her passion to educate patients and physicians about bio-toxin illness became a national phenomenon during her tenure at Natural Balance and her story remains an important part of our clinic's history and greatly influenced our ability to help patients who come to us with mold related illness from all around the country.
After completing her medical training, Dr. Berry and her children started to develop a host of unusual symptoms that were later found to be related to toxic mold exposure. Initially she received treatment and advice from multiple physicians without much progress and then decided to bring her family under the care of Natural Balance. However, even our clinic's typically successful approach wasn’t bringing recovery, which eventually led to her co-discovery with Dr. Boggess of CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome) and Dr. Shoemaker’s books and training materials.
Over the next several years, Dr. Berry intently studied the clinical research and biotoxin treatment protocols of Dr. Shoemaker and started working with patients in our clinic. During this time, she authored a presentation titled “A Physician’s Guide to Understanding & Treating Biotoxin Illness, Based on the Work of Ritchie Shoemaker, MD” that helped many doctors around the country, including our doctors understand this complex and multifaceted illness better. Dr. Berry has also been recognized for effectively whittling this complex topic into educational material for patients as well, and her videos and materials are still important tools we use to help patients understand biotoxin illness.
While Natural Balance does NOT offer the Shoemaker protocols as Dr. Berry explains in her videos, we have been able to help many patients around the country get their life back using a combination of approaches based on the knowledge gained during the years Dr. Berry worked closely with our doctors and patients at Natural Balance.
Patient Support & Admin Staff
Leslie Newell, MHE graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a masters in health education (MHE) degree and is actively seeking her CHES (CertifiedHealth Education Specialist) certification. With extensive training in patient support and education, she is central to our Precision Medicine program and is the main coordinator and support figure from start to finish for all of Dr. Boggess clinical visits.
As a Health Educator, Leslie helps patients to discover their own motivation for change and to overcome barriers or obstacles in implementing protocols outlined by our doctors. She uses evidence-based methods and theories to gain a better understanding of what motivates them, and help them to break down big goals into manageable steps if they are struggling. She also strives to connect with our patients so that they feel supported, and equipped with the knowledge they need to succeed with our clinic.
As one of our legacy employees, Leslie wears many hats at Natural Balance. However, she is most known as a reliable "go-to" person to answer all patient questions related to supplement protocols, labs, and simple clinical matters accurately and efficiently. In fact, Leslie readily admits that her primary motivation for becoming a Certified Health Educator was borne from the entry level position she took as Dr. Boggess clinical assistant many years ago.
Anna Naebeck (CMA) is both a part-time administrative manager and member of the clinical team at Natural Balance. This instilled in her unique empathy, compassion, and understanding for all patients, families, and young people seeking help at our center.

In addition to assisting our clinic doctors, Cassie is in charge of the early logistics, training, and first-dive assistance for our hyperbaric clients and it brings her joy to see the positive impact of hyperbaric oxygen on so many of our patients / clients lives.
