Q: I’ve tried all kinds of medications and therapies for my condition, with limited success. Will Brainwave Optimization help me?

A: Many who find their way to Brainwave Optimization do so after years of searching for, and frustration with finding, a solution for their life and health challenges. The simple answer is that this revolutionary system works. Regardless of the physical or emotional traumas you have endured, they have created an imprint on the brain. When we see the imprint, we are able to identify the problem and address it.  Between 80-90% of people who undergo a series of 10 Brainwave Optimization sessions report significant improvements in their lives. Click here to watch testimonials offered by those who have experienced the technology for themselves. With each person we have one mission: to balance and harmonize their brain. As the brain comes into balance, patients report that they feel better, sleep better, have increased clarity, notice enhanced intellectual and physical performance, and a have a greater sense of happiness and hope. Each brain is like a fingerprint, with each person responding in their own way.

Q: I’ve heard of neurofeedback and/or biofeedback. Isn’t this the same thing?

A: Biofeedback, neurofeedback, and Brainwave Optimization all aim to alter brainwave activity. All of these processes utilize EEG electrodes. Beyond these similarities, however, Brainwave Optimization is very different:

  • Brainwave Optimization is a specialized and proprietary process that provides unique feedback in real-time; there are no “canned” or “off-the-shelf” approaches. Your experience is uniquely geared to you and your needs, providing feedback within 25 milliseconds after the EEG signal has been generated. Conversely, with neurofeedback, brainwave data is collected and transmitted to a neurofeedback interpretation center. With neurofeedback, the data is compared to brain patterns considered to be “normal.” Then neurofeedback protocols are delivered to force brain patterns to match the pre-determined patterns for normal. However, brain changes happen much more quickly and permanently when the brain seeks its own “normal” and is not forced to match a pre-determined pattern.
  • Brainwave Optimization does not rely on operant conditioning; consequently, results are seen much more quickly. The maximum speed (postulated to be between 12 to 40 bits per second) at which our conscious mind can receive and comprehend data is far less than other elements of the autonomic nervous system—including divisions that manage sensory, motor, and internal self-regulatory functions (postulated to be hundreds of millions of bits per second). By providing precision information to patients without relying on the slower processing speeds associated with conscious learning, Brainwave Optimization aims to engage the larger-scale information processing power of the autonomic nervous system. Whereas neurofeedback requires about 40 sessions of treatment over the course of many months to see any differences, most patients find significant results after only 10 Brainwave Optimization sessions over the course of one week.

Q: What types of issues can be relieved with Brainwave Optimization?

A: Brainwave Optimization works for a wide array of individuals and issues. Some people come to us to maximize their potential – seeking clearer thinking, enhanced creativity, improved athletic/physical performance or just an overall increased sense of happiness and well-being. Brainwave Optimization has also shown positive results with those who are challenged by sleep disturbances, anxiety disorders, headaches, and chronic pain. Some of the most satisfying results have been seen in children and adults diagnosed with learning disorders, ADHD, autism, and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Regardless of the presenting condition, we are constantly gratified by the results our patients report. Given the nature of the technology, we cannot predict or guarantee results; nor do we diagnose, heal, treat, cure, or address specific symptoms. We see it very simply: we help the brain achieve a natural state of balance and harmony which leads to nervous system auto-regulation.

Q: Does Brainwave Optimization work for individuals of any age?

A: Brainwave Optimization is effective for people of nearly any age, ranging from age 5 to over 100.  The sessions are pleasant, relaxing, and require only the ability to remain relatively still for about an hour so that sensors placed on the head remain secure.

Q: What happens during the actual Brainwave Optimization session?

A: In its simplest form, a Brainwave Optimization session feels very much like an induced state of relaxation or meditation. You will be seated in a quiet, comfortable room in an anti-gravity chair with a brain technologist by your side. Some of the training will be active (eyes open; you will watch a video or other activity on the computer screen), and some will be passive (with your eyes closed), during which time the brain technologist will direct you in a personal visualization or imaging exercise. Most people report a highly pleasurable experience and enjoy hearing their own brainwaves transformed into relaxing sounds.

Q: What is the average time commitment?

A: Most patients initially commit to a series of 10, 90-minute sessions – what we call “an intensive.” This is the time period that we have found delivers the best results for most people. (Individuals with severe, life-debilitating, or life-long issues may find that more time is required.)  We find that it is important for these sessions to occur within a one- to two-week period of time, during which the patient minimizes other life activities. Occasionally, a patient will need to take vacation time from work or school.

Q: Do people experience any negative side effects from Brainwave Optimization?

A: Unlike most medications and therapies, we have not seen negative effects or reactions to Brainwave Optimization.  People who experience Brainwave Optimization – and those around them – have noticed only positive changes. Our tools are used to help your brain restore itself to its natural and desired state of balance, rather than forcing it into a predetermined state.

Q: Why can’t I drink alcohol while I am doing the Brainwave Optimization?

A: Alcohol and street drugs taken during Brainwave Optimization, and within the three weeks following the completion of sessions, act as a “wet blanket” on the brain. Instead of new, healthier connections being made rapidly and with ease, alcohol slows the response time. Our goal is to help you arrive at maximum effectiveness as quickly and easily as possible. That is why we work with you to minimize any activity that will hamper that progress and ask that you not ingest toxic substances throughout the duration of your sessions.

Q: Should I stop taking my medication while doing sessions?

A: Many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription, can have an effect on your mood, concentration, sleep, pain, or energy levels. If you are taking any medication on an “as-needed” basis, you may wish to consider taking less during your sessions. If you require consistent medication, you may wish to schedule a medical consultation with Dr. Boggess to evaluate whether a dosage adjustment may be appropriate for the duration of your Brainwave Optimization sessions. Do not stop taking your medications without the supervision of a medical professional.
